CBD in Skincare

There are a handful of things that I love about CBD, from the fact that using it in our skincare routine stimulates our overall well-being to the plethora of natural & bioavailable benefits that it actually has on the skin, of which we will talk all about! But the number one reason why I love CBD and chose to carry a cannabis line in my skincare practice, is because of our relationship with our endocannabinoid system (ECS)! We have a whole entire body system that we can communicate with via receptors to this amazing isolated phytocannabinoid. CBD is beneficial to almost every skin type & condition whether isolated or full spectrum, containing more than 110 cannabinoids!

First of all, if you don’t know what our endocannabinoid system is, it is what maintains homeostasis and balance in our bodies. Every single tissue & organ in our body contains endocannabinoids & their receptors. If you have never in your life consumed cannabis, your body still possesses endocannabinoids! One of the biggest examples of this is anandamide which is responsible for the molecule feeling of joy, bliss, & the commonly known, runners high. However, nature is amazing & has given us plants that contain molecules to fill in our receptors as well. These are known as phytocannabinoids and are what we use when applying CBD products to our skin!

CBD is one of the most holistic ingredients that we can utilize to care for & nourish our skin! Through our endocannabinoid system, CBD communicates with our receptors to do whatever is needed in the body to find balance. This unique capability makes CBD particularly adequate for the healthy function of our skin. Temperature regulation, excretion, immunity, absorption, cell protection & replacement, sebum regulation, delivering nourishment, & experiencing sensations are all responsibilities that our integumentary system holds and maintains for us everyday! When using CBD topically in our skincare routine, it can help bring all of these functions into balance to not just maintain the wellness of your skin but to your overall well-being <3

CBD has very high amounts of antioxidants, even more than vitamins A, C, & E! This is just what we need for fighting free radical damage which increases the aging process and cellular destruction of our proteins, lipids, and DNA. Antioxidants also give us protection from internal & external stressors such as sun damage, pollution, dirt, & debris making it a must in any skin care regiment. CBD provides extremely delicate support in antibacterial properties & regulating sebum production that could either be slowing once we age or could be overactive creating acne. It helps us retain moisture, regulates cell proliferation, & communicates with our melanocytes to treat & prevent hyperpigmentation. CBD also acts as an amazing combat to erythema making it extremely helpful for all inflammatory conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, sensitivity, & aging!

Creating a skincare ritual around CBD doesn’t have to be difficult or take a lot of time. Giving yourself a lovely little CBD oil massage each night, putting on a masque a couple times a week while you read your favorite book, or protecting yourself with an antioxidant rich moisturizer each morning are all simple ways to slow down each day and bring a sense of calm & nourishment to yourself via your endocannabinoid system. Try & build a relationship with it, see where it takes you :)
